Bassett Creek Park Pond & Winnetka Pond Dredging Project

A feasibility study underway with completion and approval expected in May 2017. The study includes bathymetric surveys, wetland delineations, and sediment sampling including analyses for harmful contaminants. An open house and public input meeting will be held in February 2017 for residents to learn more about the project and for BCWMC and city staff to hear concerns and answer questions. Estimated project costs will be available with the completion of the feasibility study but are likely to be between $500,000 and $1,000,000. BCWMC capital projects such as this are typically funded through an ad valorum tax of all watershed residents. Some projects also receive county or state grant funds.


Project Description

This proposed project that will remove sediment that has collected in the main channel of the North Branch of Bassett Creek within Bassett Creek Park Pond and Winnetka Pond in the City of Crystal. The project will improve water quality downstream by trapping sediment in the pond, thus minimizing sediment passing downstream to Bassett Creek. Additional information will be available upon completion of the feasibility study in May 2017.
